QUALIFICATIONS:
- Massachusetts Licensure as an English as a Second Language Teacher 5-12
JOB GOAL/PURPOSE:
To serve as a teacher with specific responsibility for developing English Learners ability to effectively perform courses of study in the English language; develop lesson plans and deliver group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborate with other teachers; other professional staff; and administration in addressing instructional, assessment and student needs.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and/or Director of ESL
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for state mandates of English Learners (ELs).
- Delivers ESL Instruction that is designed to give EL’s the additional linguistic support they need through systematic, explicit, and sustained focus on language and literacy within the rich context of the MA frameworks.
- Administers tests and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student language ability.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student achievement; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing goals in the home environment.
- Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
- Communicates with families and students for the purpose of improving academic, social emotional, and behavioral success.
- Engages in parent/guardian outreach, opportunities, and involvement, and maintains documentation of these activities.
- Participates in school and district initiatives and professional development that promotes professional growth, social emotional learning, and accessibility to curriculum.
- Models English communication for the purpose of developing student ability to communicate effectively in academic and social settings using the English language.
- Prepares a variety of written materials and correspondence (e.g. grades, progress reports, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting MA ELL requirements.
- Collaborates with various staff for the purpose of meeting individual ELL needs.
- Performs other responsibilities as deemed appropriate and assigned by a supervisor and/or designee.
