Attleboro Community Academy Mathematics Teacher Grades 9-12
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills in mathematics. The position will consist of teaching in an alternative high school setting for at-risk students.
Hours: 12pm-8pm Monday-Thursday; 9am-12pm Friday
Essential Functions
- Develop and administer math education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Apply an integrated approach to the teaching of math.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that are engaging, relevant, and hands-on.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Employ a range of assessment methods of student learning and progress, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of alternative teaching methods and classroom management.
- Ability to de-escalate student to student conflict and student to teacher conflict.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods (including social emotional learning) and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
Certification/License:
- Massachusetts State Certification as a mathematics Education Teacher 9 - 12
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
- SEI Endorsement preferred
Education:
Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment: Masters Degree in related area preferred.
Experience:
Prior experience with at-risk students a plus.
