Special Education Paraprofessional SSC Program (1.0)
Attleboro High School
The SSC program is designed to provide the therapeutic, academic, behavioral and structural supports necessary for students with social emotional/behavioral needs to successfully access general education and participate in the life of the school. The primary goal of the program is to develop, apply, and generalize the skills necessary to manage emotions, develop positive relationships, self-advocate, and make responsible decisions.
Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist professional staff with students in the classroom to meet academic goals and objectives and implement positive behavioral supports.
Essential Job Functions
- Works with students individually and in small groups.
- Assists professional staff in data collection: academic and behavioral
- Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing academic and behavioral skills according to individual student needs.
- Assists with individual, class, and school positive behavioral supports to to support a safe, learning environment.
- Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, and other related noninstructional areas including self-care: toileting/bathroom.
- Accompanies students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.
- Constructs, copies and distribute and use materials as needed.
- Assists teacher with parent contact as requested to foster effective and participatory parent involvement in student education.
- Participates in IEP process and serves as resource for the student personnel evaluation team as needed.
- Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students.

- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
- Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications Profile
- Prior experience working with students with social emotional challenges
- Data collection experience preferred
- Safety care training preferred.
- Highly Qualified
