Hill Roberts Elementary School K-4
The program provides a highly structured environment to develop students’ academic, social awareness, social communication, and self regulation skills to create positive relationships with peers in the least restrictive environment. Students are supported in generalizing skills across school environments as needed. Students have been identified with moderate to significant needs in academics, social awareness, social communication, and/or self-regulation.
Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives. In addition, this staff may be called on to support Special Education students outside of the SPARK program.
Essential Job Functions
- Implements lessons and activities with the necessary accommodations and modifications required to meet the individual needs of students in the classroom as directed by the teacher.
- Assist students with physical or social disabilities with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities.
- Implements positive behavior support plans and collects data on student progress.
- Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, and other related non-instructional areas including self-care ie toileting.
- Implements interventions and de-escalation strategies with students who display significant behavioral issues within the school setting.
- Collect and accurately record behavioral, social, academic,and other data as required per student's specific goals and programming.
- Consistently communicates and collaborates with staff to foster student success.
- Performs other job duties as required or directed by supervisors.

- Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with disabilities.

- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
- Experience with ABA principles.
- Experience with collecting data.
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
- Implement crisis/emergency procedures according to protocol.
Qualifications Profile
- Highly Qualified; 2 years college credits or equivalent.
- Prior experience working with students with disabilities specifically autism preferred.
- SafetyCare or comparable de-escalation training preferred.
