High School Special Education ABA Specialist 

Attleboro High School: 12+ Program 

 

12+ Program (1)

The 12+ program provides curriculum and experiences that encourage students to develop and make effective progress towards their desired post-secondary transition goals in academic proficiency, activities of daily living, and employment opportunities. The goal of the program is to foster independence and support the transition to post-school life. As students age toward adulthood, experiences transition from the classroom to real life expectations in the community. Students are supported in opportunities to learn in real world environments among typical adults in the community

 

Position Purpose

Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist certified professional staff with students to meet academic, social, emotional, and behavioral goals and objectives.

 

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Implements interventions and de-escalation strategies with students who display significant behavioral issues within the school setting.
  • Collect and accurately record behavioral, social, academic, and other data as required per students' specific goals and programming.
  • Consistently communicates and collaborates with staff to foster student success.
  • Assist students with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities including toileting.
  • Implements positive behavior support plans and collects data on student progress.
  • Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, corridor, self-care (toileting), and other related non-instructional areas.
  • Performs other job duties as required or directed by supervisors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with ABA and data collection. 
  • SafetyCare or comparable de-escalation training is preferred.
  • Implement safety/crisis procedures according to protocol
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
  • Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with disabilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.

 

Qualifications Profile

  • Highly Qualified; 2 years college credits or equivalent.
  • Prior experience working with students with autism and developmental delays preferred.
  • Registered Behavior Technician preferred
  • Safety Care trained preferred
